LONG SERVICE AWARDS FOR KINGHORN RNLI VOLUNTEERS

13/06/2016

Two volunteer RNLI crewmembers have been recognised with long service awards, with 50 years of service between them.

Keith Hay and Scott McIlravie were recognised at an awards ceremony in Perth on Thursday, when they were presented with badges for 30 years and 20 years? service respectively.

Scott McIlravie received the Long Service Award in recognition of his twenty years as an operational crew member.

A bar was added to the Long Service Award already held by Keith, acknowledging his 30 years? service.

Operations Manager, Alan McIlravie said, ?On Thursday, 9th June I had the privilege of watching two of our number receiving awards in recognition of the many years they have committed themselves to the 'Saving of Lives at Sea'.

?In anyone?s book these awards illustrate outstanding selflessness and devotion to the work of the RNLI. Giving up their time, often at a cost to family and personal arrangements, for so long, is worthy of recognition.

?I have regular contact with other charitable organisations and occasionally have to point out that the difference between volunteers who provide an operational service (and the RNLI is not alone in this) and others, is that operational people do not have the luxury of a diary. Their reaction is 'now', not at 7pm on Monday evening, it is immediate, it is disruptive, it is often inconvenient and it is occasionally dangerous.

?I am sure you will join me in offering your congratulations to Keith and Scott on reaching these milestones in their RNLI lives.?
