The Royal National Lifeboat Institution - Saves Lives at Sea

Kinghorn RNLI Lifeboat Fundraising Branch and the local Kingswood Hotel held their third Christmas Shopping on Friday 8th November, raising nearly £4,300.00 for Kinghorn lifeboat and the RNLI.

The hotel hosted a Christmas shopping event, with 22 stalls offering a wide variety of gifts including jewellery, handbags, beauty products, chocolates, handmade gifts, and children’s party clothing. There was also flower arranging, wrapping and cake decoration demonstrations and a raffle.

The hotel arranged for a singer, and served canapés and drinks throughout the evening which was attended by nearly 200 people.

Kinghorn lifeboat fundraising chairperson, Sheona Baxter said, ‘Once again, the Kingswood Hotel has hosted a spectacular event, and in doing so has raised £4,250 for the RNLI. I’d like to thank the Kingswood, and also everyone who has come along to support the event, stallholders and supporters alike.

Sheona Baxter spoke at the culmination of the event and told the audience of supporters about the service the RNLI provides, and some of the costs involved: ‘the Royal National Lifeboat Institution is funded entirely by voluntary contributions with no support from the UK government.

‘The lifeboat service is available for all users of the water and the coastline. Many of the service calls attended by Kinghorn lifeboat are to provide assistance to users of the Fife Coastal path, and not exclusively people out on boats or other water users.

‘It costs around £90,000 per year to run an inshore lifeboat station such as Kinghorn, and this money is raised at events like the shopping evening.

‘Finally, our next big event will be the Loony Dook on new year’s day at Kinghorn Beach, with our annual mince pie tea on Saturday 30th November in the Church hall.
