RNLI KINGHORN LIFEBOAT INVOLVED IN SEARCH FOR MISSING DIVER
Kinghorn RNLI Lifeboat volunteers took part in the search for a missing diver today after he failed to surface during a fishing trip off Lower Largo.
Forth Coastguard received an emergency call about 1.05pm reporting that a fishing vessel was in difficulty in Largo Bay. A diver from the boat had failed to surface as expected.
The Coastguard immediately requested the launch of Kinghorn Lifeboat as well as a Royal Navy search and rescue helicopter from Prestwick and Coastguard search teams. The lifeboat arrived on scene around 1.35pm and began a search of the area.
The search was eventually called off after 3¼ hours.
It is understood that the fishing vessel was from Methil and were using a diver to collect shellfish when the incident occurred.
A spokesman for Kinghorn Lifeboat said, “We were requested by Forth Coastguard to assist in the search for a missing diver off Lower Largo today. Unfortunately after a long search with nothing found the Coastguard made the decision to suspend the search at which point we returned to station.”
