      Open Day (on 17/07/2010)
The RNLI Lifeboat Station in Kinghorn will hold their annual Open Day on Saturday 17th July between 12noon and 4pm.

This is also the first chance for a good look at one of Scotland’s busiest lifeboats,
the new Atlantic 85, ‘Tommy Niven’ which was placed on station last October.

The volunteers are hoping for an all-time high number of visitors when they open their doors to the public, as this is THE major fund-raising event of the year for Kinghorn and the station will play host to visitors of all ages wishing to see the lifeboat up close and to meet the crew, men and women, who have already responded to around 40 rescue calls this year.

Helmsman Neil Chalmers said, "The Atlantic 85 is a fantastic lifeboat, and it has already proved its worth numerous times since arriving on station. Among the features of the new boat are an increase in size and power allowing us to reach casualties quicker and more safely, with features to improve our search and rescue capabilities such as radar, VHF direction finding, and the ability to carry an extra crewmember.

He continued, "With Weather pundits forecasting a hot summer ahead, keep your diary clear for Saturday 17th July 2009 when Kinghorn will again host an Open Day, featuring stalls, fun, games and food! These include a dry-suit competition for kids, hook-a-duck, along with old favourites such as strawberry teas and face-painting. A 'rescue' will also be performed in front of your eyes!"

"So come on down and have a great day out, its FREE, the kids will love it and its all in a good cause, which is to keep the volunteer lifeboat operating in the Forth. The RNLI is a charity which is totally reliant upon donations from the public, but instead of just putting money in a tin, your whole family can enjoy themselves, and you can win some great prizes too!"
Outcome: Kinghorn RNLI Lifeboat held a very successful Open Day on Saturday raising nearly £3,000 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
